Hearts of Love Centre Summer Camp II

The second team from the UK is preparing to lead a summer camp at the Hearts of Love Centre in Konotop, Ukraine August 8-17, 09.  Our first summer camp last year was a great success with 10 of the 40 children that came committing their lives to Christ.  We also visited the homes of several special needs children that were unable to come to the camp to assess their needs and spend time with them praying and playing with them.

Since last summer the centre has become a great resource for the community with more than a hundred children coming there every week to do crafts and arts activities, computer training, music and dance lessons, school tutoring and much more. Having completed a charity bike challenge last September I had the privilege of returning to Konotop and was able to hand over a donation of 1000 GBP ($1500) from the sponsorship I raised for the centre, which they used to do some much needed guttering and replace the damaged fencing for the Hearts of Love Centre.

Lena Yushenko, a single mother with a special needs daughter runs the centre along with a dedicated team of mothers.  In response to the support they’ve received from ASSIST Europe she said: “I thank you for all presents and financial help. We were glad to find out that you will be helping us to run a camp together this summer. We are sure the time of our meeting will be blessed as it was last year. Many children are looking forward to this event.”

“Thank you for your concern and for remembering our children and the Hearts of Love Centre. We always feel your care.”

Due to the financial crisis the greatest challenge for the centre now is the ongoing running costs and to complete the refurbishment of some of the rooms there.  This August we plan to take a gift towards these needs and any donations you can make towards this would be much appreciated.

UCB Albania Urgent Word For Today Appeal

This month we are excited to announce that we’ve partnered with UCB Albania to provide support for their vital projects there.  Due to lack of funds they’ve had to cancel the last two editions of the Word For Today devotional booklet they translate for the country.

With such great spiritual hunger in Albania’s rapidly growing churches these booklets are in great demand.

UCB Albania’s Leslie Wright said: “The credit crunch has hit UCB Albania hard as it has not been able to produce the last two editions of the Bob Gass daily devotional 'The Word For Today'.  The booklet is loved by the Christians in Albania and we would love to get printing up and running again.  We are making a concerted effort to produce the Autumn edition and would appreciate your help.  We would love to hear from those who have a heart for mission and especially Albania.”
